Pregnancy is an exciting time, a time full of joy and love. Although pregnancy can be mentally and physically tough during so called normal times let alone during a global pandemic. So we wrote a little guild to help put your mind at ease.
1. The overall risk of Covid to pregnant women is low and there is no evidence to suggest pregnant women are more likely to get ill from the virus.
2. Pregnant women are more at more risk of virus like the flu so it is imperative you are eating a healthy balanced diet and taking the recommended supplements.
3. Make sure you wash hands regularly, social distance from others and reduce contact with people as prevention. Finally stay away from anyone with symptoms and if you suspect you have Covid-19 then call your midwife, self isolate and get a test.
4. You must still attend all of your appointments and scans during your pregnancy! Although there maybe a few change like online appointments, must wear a face mask, you may have to attend alone but if unsure contact your midwife or contact details on the hospital letter and finally some appointments may get rescued.
5. As long as your birth partner has no symptoms and / or tests negative for Covid-19 they can be with you for the birth.
6. If you are well you may be able to still give birth at home. Discuss birth plan with midwife and stay fully informed on any changes due to corona virus.
7. There is no evidence corona virus can be passed onto your baby in breast milk.
